Tips to Win in Backgammon
It is true that Backgammon has been one of the oldest games in history but the concepts of this game have always been simple. Now that it has gone online, more people are getting a chance to know about it, learn how to play it and master it. Whether you are playing Backgammon online against opponents from all over the world, or are just playing it against a software or against friends at home on a backgammon table, there are a few tips that can help you improve your skills and teach you how to win at the Backgammon table.
- Priming: This strategy involves building up a prime or a wall around your opponent so as to block his movement. Once you have built a prime, your opponent can move only if he rolls a high number on the dice. If you build a prime consisting of six occupied-points, all in a row, then you can block all movement of your opponent in the forward direction.
- Anchoring: This strategy is a defensive one where you need to establish one or more of your points on the home board of your opponent. If the opponent has any checker in the bar, then you get the safe advantage of re-entering a hit-checker on the board. Even if you own just one of these points, you can prevent your opponent from winning by making sure he doesn’t make all the points on his home board.
- Hitting: If your checker gets a chance to land in your opponent’s blot, then hitting will be a good strategy to use. What you do in this move is that you hit your opponent’s checker to the bar or basically banish it from the game and this will slow down your opponent as he cannot move any other checker till the one that was banished is brought back into the game.
